Sticks and Stones Camp (6/22/2016)

Day Two (10 - 12 year old camp)

A very special shoutout to The Bicycle Shop (814-238-9422) located in downtown State College, PA for donating a bunch of awesome water bottles for our campers to use to stay hydrated while riding! The campers loved the water bottles and will certainly use them while out riding around where ever their bikes take them.  We can't say enough how much we appreciate working with you all of you down on 441 West College Avenue, State College PA 16801

We picked up two additional riders for the remainder of the week, adding our total count up to 16 bikers!  With having that many bikers, one would think it would slow us down but we set a new camp record for distance traveled in one session at 10.8 miles. Solid work! With that total added up, we've covered 313 miles so far in our 2016 summer camps.  Pretty crazy to think that we've covered that far of a distance on our bikes.

Today was a lot of fun as we took a warmup ride to the trails that we would spend a majority of our time biking.  Once we arrived, we explored the trails to get acquainted with the various loops that we would ride.  Following the free ride, we had each biker ride that same loop in a staggered start fashion where we wanted them to try to push themselves a little harder then we rode it during our free ride. The riders were all very excited and you could see how their confidence exuded following their second run through the loop. The last thing that we did before heading back to the pickup spot was a scavenger hunt.  We had the riders split into four groups to search for a variety of items scattered around the trails until they reached their goal.  The kids always love to end a session this way as it give them the freedom to explore the trails while working together to achieve a common goal.  Bob and I can't say enough how great of a job the mountain bikers did today and we are looking forward to another great ride on Friday!

Remember, next Tuesday (6/28/2016) and Thursday (6/30/2016) from 8:00AM - 11:00AM, we are holding our first of three fly fishing camps.  Additionally, next Wednesday (6/29/2016) we are going to be traveling to Lake Raystown from 9:00AM - 3:00PM to have an all day biking session.  Please contact rfurmanek@yahoo.com or kah935@gmail.com for details while spots remain.  There are a limited amount of spots, so please get a hold of one of us if you are interested!
