Sticks and Stones Camp (7/31/2015)

Day Three:

The last day of camp showcased some of the best riding of the week! These guys rode hard and challenged themselves today more so then any of the other days during this camp. All in all it was an awesome camp with great kids who are already skilled beyond their years.  One of the coolest things to see as a result of this week is how the confidence levels rose each passing moment as the boys were on their bikes.  Obstacles that they may have hesitated on earlier this week, they took on with careful thought and precision.

As you can see in the photos below, a trio of our riders are wearing our brand new official Sticks and Stones Youth Mountain Biking Development dri-fit shirts. Furm and I were rocking the new Sticks and Stones baseball t-shirt! Stay tuned as they will be able to be purchased through our website in the near future!

Enjoy!

Sticks and Stones Camp (7/29/2015)

Day Two

Today we had another great day on the trails.  It wasn't as muddy as Monday but the bikers were ready to go as soon as they arrived.  We warmed up with a nice free ride to get everyone acclimated with the new trails. After that we went on two timed courses where one emphasized endurance and the other tested their ability to sprint on their bike.  All of the riders posted faster times from their previous best lap and the team challenge on the short track ended up being insanely close. In the end, the team challenge had a time differential of .52 seconds between the two racing teams!

To end the day we dropped twelve baseballs around the entire course and the boys split up into teams and had a scavenger hunt.  The riders were flying around trying to scour the trails to find some of the hidden baseballs.  It is crazy to see how confident the riders are getting by just spending a lot of time on their bikes.  Obstacles that may have caused hesitation earlier this week weren't even a factor as they took them on with relative ease.

Very impressive day on the trails today fellas! Below is a glimpse highlighting our six-plus miles of riding today, enjoy!

Sticks and Stones Camp (07/27/2015)

Day One

With the precipitation we received last evening in Central Pennsylvania, the trails were ready to sling some mud around on our campers and their bikes this morning! The group is comprised of a skilled set of seven mountain bikers so they were eager to ride over rock(s), root system, log(s), and anything else in their paths.

One of our riders had a cycling odometer on his bike and calculated that we went close to six miles today! That's impressive seeing as the conditions were so muddy.  We look forward to seeing the campers in action on Wednesday as we'll tackle challenging terrain and obstacles!

Sticks and Stones Camp (7/24/2015)

Day Three:

It's hard to believe that this is the last day of camp for this week.  The riders all improved from their already impressive mountain biking skills.  They rode hard and took on all of the challenges that they were given throughout the entire week.

We started off today by taking a nice warm-up loop to get re-acclimated to mountain biking the trails, hills and varying terrains.  Following our free ride there was some grumblings from the boys that they wanted another timed challenge course.  It was incredible to see how they were driven to support one another while the riders were flying around the course.  The boys who were not riding would run into the course from the finish line to encourage each other to finish their lap strong.  Everyone could hear when the rider was nearing the finish line as we heard "he's coming in hot," or "we have a visual," followed by a trail of boys on foot who were running to keep up with the rider.  Judging from some of the photos below, I think it is safe to say that they were going hard!

Awesome camp this week fellas!

Sticks and Stones Camp (7/22/2015)

Day Two:

The boys were back for more and we added one additional biker for the rest of the week.  They quickly geared up, put on their mud eye black before we tackled the warm-up/free ride "refresher." The riders pedaled their way over roots, rocks and navigated a bunch of awesome man-made obstacles.

Following the free-ride, we split the boys into three 2-person teams and challenged them to complete a timed four lap race (each team member biked two laps).  The already high levels of excitement increased as they were cheering each other on to complete the lap and beat their own personal records.

We finished the day off with another exploratory free ride, had an encounter with a toad and circled back to the loop where we had the friendly race. As soon as we pulled up, they instantly wanted to finish off the day trying to beat their own personal record.

Below are a bunch of pictures over the course of our ride today.

Enjoy!

Sticks and Stones Camp (7/20/2015)

Day One:

We had a great time mountain biking on trails throughout our first day of camp with six experienced riders. Below is a compilation of photos from our final challenge of the morning.  We had the boys try to summit a tricky hill where they worked on some of the information we covered while riding through the wet, muddy and beautiful terrain.

Enjoy!
