Perfect Day on a Bike

Today was an awesome day to be out tearing around on a mountain bike.  We had an amazing group of youngsters, solidifying the notion that the sport of mountain biking will be okay for years to come. The course wasn't easy this morning and there were no complaints about going up a hill or having to go over fallen trees. Bottom line, the riders were troopers who enjoyed ripping around the woods!

On Thursday, we will surpass the 1,000 mile mark for the third straight time!! Great work!

Enjoy the photos below from this mornings journey!

Solid Session in the Woods!

Camp was full of life today as we had seventeen riders who were ready to take on anything that was put in front of them.  As you'll be able to see in the photos below we had a lot of great kids who encouraged others or picked each other up if they took a spill. It was really fun to watch the riders get to know one another and make new friends while they were going through the session today.

In total, we rode close to six miles today filled with old logging trails, singletrack, logs, roots and rocks. Every rider did a great job working through each obstacle! Once we arrived back at the tent, the riders finished out by having a fun competition. We ended today by having a balancing challenge, where the victor earned a new Sticks and Stones t-shirt. Awesome job today everyone!

Ripping Around the Woods!

Camp was great today! The riders did an awesome job exploring and riding over some newly downed obstacles, thanks to Mother Nature. In total, we rode ten miles with close to 700 feet of elevation gain. Solid ride!

Today, as most days of camp, Bob and I will talk throughout camp and comment on the improvements of the mountain bikers. We let the riders make their own choices of what they want to ride over, or what they wish to walk their bike over. It never ceases to amaze us how each individual chooses to ride over obstacles that they wouldn't have attempted at the start of the day. It's one of my favorite parts of camp, seeing both confidence and skill levels increase with the passing of each day! Another dramatic improvement that occurred with one of our riders was seeing how his new bike from The Bicycle Shop paved the way for heightened confidence and excitement. Younger riders grow at varying rates but it's incredible to see how a correctly sized bike can improve their riding ability!

Enjoy!

Perfect Day for Fly Fishing!

The conditions for this mornings fly fishing session would be tough to beat! The stream had the opportunity to clear up from yesterday's murky conditions and the fish cooperated very nicely. Our fisherman did an outstanding job casting, in fact he looked at me at one point and said, check out this bow and arrow cast. He performed it with ease and used it properly to sling an elk hair ant underneath a overhanging tree! Well done!

We had the luxury of landing six fish, watched a few fish attack the ant and had the chance to play a really nice 14 - 16 inch trout, although it came off a bit earlier than we anticipated. Oh well, we know exactly where it lurks for a future trip!

We had a really great time today and I'll let the photos tell the rest of this mornings journey!

Enjoy!

Fly Fishing Central PA

Today was an absolutely gorgeous day on the waters of Central Pennsylvania. Sure, the heavy rain we got yesterday made the water a tad on the murky side, but we still fished hard! Most of the targeted areas were ambush points where the trout could stay out of swifter currents and still have an opportunity to feed on any unsuspecting insects. The varieties of flies that we used were terrestrials which are a popular meal throughout the summer months.

Both of our fisherman did a phenomenal job getting to know the basics of assembling a rod, fly casting, line control amongst a lot of other information! That combined with unwavering persistence and dedication in trying to fool a trout, both of our fisherman successfully had a fish on or got a fish to feed. They understood that this wasn't an easy thing to do as they heard me speak to other fly fisherman who weren't so lucky this morning.

Kudos to both of you and I look forward to getting out on the stream tomorrow and Thursday!

Enjoy!

Rothrock Exploration!

Day Three, Week One:

Huge congrats to all of our mountain bikers today and those who joined us throughout the entire week! Today was the most challenging of the three days and everyone did a great job working through some extremely technical terrain, rubbing some dirt on scrapes and tip toeing past a rattlesnake and a snapping turtle. Well done!

Everyone gathered and listened to the game plan for the session.  We split into two groups and half of us rode up Bear Meadows Road to Corner Road, up Camp, to Beer Tap and across the Ridge to Kettle Trail descent.  The half of the group pedaled up Laurel Run Road, to Three Bridges, to Longberger and back!

All in all, it was an outstanding week and we look forward to seeing everyone back for another one of our camps later this summer! Please contact us if you have not already to save a spot while they are still available!

Day Two is in the Books!

DAY TWO, WEEK 1:

The second day of camp was another rippin' day on the trails as we are now up to 342 miles biked during camp in 2017! As soon as the bikers got to the lot, they shook out their legs by tearing around the warm up loop and got ready for a big day of biking.

Once everyone arrived we took a decent journey to some more technical riding and trails filled with roots, rocks and log obstacles. It's always fun to see the natural progression of how the bikers gain confidence and their ability to read a trail and see the "correct" line to travel. Everyone did a great job conquering obstacles, facing fears, and surpassing nearly 800 feet of elevation gain on our 8.6 mile journey.

We look forward to picking it up another level and tackling a variety of additional challenges tomorrow in Rothrock! See everyone at 10AM at the Galbraith Gap Parking Lot!

Enjoy the photos and awesome drone footage put together by our very own, Owen Hildebrand!
